At Whole Body Healing, I am now accepting HSA & FSA cards for payment of your Myofascial Treatments...

Here's a brief description of an HSA and FSA, as I understand them:

HSA (Health Savings Account): A tax advantaged medical savings account for taxpayers in the US, who are enrolled in a high-deductible health plan.  The money in your HSA can be used to help pay for many health related things.

FSA (Flexible Spending Account): This is usually established by an employer.  It's usually funded by a pre-tax payroll deduction, but employers can also contribute to it, or fund it entirely.  These don't always roll over, sometimes they must be used by the end of the year.

How to use your HSA or FSA for massage/bodywork:

  1. Check with your HR department or Insurance carrier to be sure that massage is covered as part of your HSA or FSA.

  2. Visit your primary Dr. and let them know you are seeking massage and bodywork to help with your situation.  Communicate your specific symptoms with them.  Massage and bodywork can help with issues such as headaches, chronic neck and back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, tinnitus, TMJD, poor circulation, arthritis, fibromyalgia, nerve impingement, range of motion issues, and many other body related ailments.

  3. If your Dr. deems it medically necessary, they can write a prescription for massage.  The prescription should include your diagnosis (reason for massage), how many sessions each month or how long you should receive treatments (several months, one year, etc), and recommended session length (60, 75, 90 minutes).  As I understand it, this prescription should be kept with your records and receipts from your massage and bodywork treatment sessions.

  4. When you make your appointment for massage/bodywork, let your therapist know that you wish to pay with your HSA/FSA card.  It can be used just like a credit/debit card as long as the therapist has their system set up to accept them.

  5. No tipping is allowed to be put on the card, just the price of the session.

More and more, massage and bodywork are being recognized as part of the medical community by physicians and health insurance companies, alike, for their health benefits.
